Our small and passionate team here at LUVO has a vision to change the health of North America by building a lifestyle brand that makes nutritious and great tasting food accessible to everyone. We believe we can achieve this by delivering nutritious products while educating consumers on nutrition and being transparent in our packaging and labeling. We never compromising on taste as we explore bold flavors and bring you global cuisine. Each of our meals starts with chef-created recipes using wholesome ingredients, spices and seasonings, then refined until our nutritionist approves every bite to be as nutritious as it is delicious.
Today, there is an overwhelming amount of information about food – where it comes from, how it is processed, its benefits and threats. When it comes to packaged foods, not only are we worried about high sodium and added sugar levels, we question if there is any nutritional value at all. At Luvo, we are committed to keeping it simple for you by using real food that is minimally processed. We hope that when you see the name Luvo, you trust there are good people behind it and the hard work has already been done – no need to flip the package or be a scientist to understand the label.
Of course, building trust with you is no easy feat. It takes time, a lot of work and a great team. We are also looking to the experts to guide us, including the nutritional guidelines of Dr. Walter Willett’s Healthy Eating Plate from the Harvard School of Public Health, and working with organizations such as Produce for Better Health Foundation and Menus of Change. While we love to dig deep into food research and case studies, we keep it easy to understand the best practices of eating well:
- Eat no fewer than five servings of produce each day
- Eat whole grains in place of refined grains
- Enjoy moderate portions of antibiotic free meat and poultry
- Eat less sodium
- Eat less sugar and avoid high-fructose syrup
- Encourage sustainable practices and transparency in our supply chain
We can almost guarantee that none of the points above are new or surprising. In fact, a recent study by the Hartman Group tells us consumers are already looking for more fruits and vegetables in their meals, whole grains, lean proteins, more fiber, lower sodium and sugars. This means consumers, like you, are ahead of the food industry, and we need to catch up to fill the gap and exceed your expectations.
As food manufacturers, we have a responsibility to contribute to the solutions of today’s health issues such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes just to name a few. In addition to producing nutritious meals, we know that ensuring an accessible price point is also key to making an impact in our communities; our goal is to have an average price point of $6.00 US per nutritious and convenient Luvo meal. To achieve this, we are innovating how we source our food from farms to help increase crop yields and conserve water, as well how to use the 40% of “ugly” or “perfectly ripe” produce that never makes it to market.
The issues in the food industry are large and complex, and it will take both the consumer, and us, as manufacturers, to make changes.
