The rice varieties used in many of our meals are grown using an innovative method called More Crop Per Drop™, which is respectful of women and water, enabling farmers to harvest more rice with less water, seed and labor.
Less water, more rice
More Crop Per Drop™ refers to Lotus Foods rice that is grown using the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). SRI is a not a new seed or input, but rather a different way of cultivating rice that enables small-scale farmers to double and triple their yields while using 80-90% less seed, 50% less water, less or no agrochemical inputs, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. That’s revolutionary!
Women provide 50-90% of labor in growing the world’s rice crop, most of it poorly paid. With the help of Lotus Foods, women spend less time transplanting and weeding and no longer have to work in flooded fields where they are exposed to agrochemicals and diseases.
